About Granville

The farm and home now known as Granville, dates to the 1850s and was originally built by the Ladd family; prominent Quakers with deep ties to Central Virginia. The two-story section of the main home was structurally present during the Civil War and within marching distance of the Battle of Malvern Hill among other historic conflicts.

Present on the grounds of Granville today is Grace Chapel dating to 1890. Once considered a mission chapel for the western most parishioners of Westover Episcopal Church. Families enjoyed selected services and other activities a little closer to home, crops and children especially during times of harvest. The chapel was moved on to the grounds of Granville in the 1950s from across historic Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) by the Randolph family.

Granville’s history continues today as a place to celebrate, a place to gather and as a private office for the families behind 1850 Investments.
